What the West Side Offers
The homes on Danville's west side span a wide range of eras and styles, reflecting the fact that development happened incrementally as the hillside lots were graded and made available over several decades. Some properties are original California ranch houses from the 1960s, sitting on half-acre lots with mature landscaping that's been growing for sixty years. Others are custom homes built in the 1980s and 1990s by owners who bought for the setting and designed accordingly. A smaller number are newer custom builds that came in the 2000s and 2010s.
What the best of these properties share is a genuine relationship with the land. They're not houses that happen to be near open space — they're houses where the architecture was (or should have been) shaped by the view, the trees, and the topography. When that relationship has been neglected — and often it has, as original construction decisions age poorly — renovation is the opportunity to restore it.
The Renovation Work We Do Here
The most consistent transformation we make on west Danville properties is the connection between inside and out. Original ranch houses in this neighborhood typically face away from the hills — an artifact of how builders oriented houses in the 1960s regardless of the site's natural opportunities. A renovation that re-orients the main living spaces toward the view, opens the kitchen to the great room, and creates a proper transition to an outdoor terrace is a project that can feel like building a new house without touching the foundation.
Hillside site work is another category specific to the west side. Terracing a steeply sloped rear yard to create usable outdoor living areas, integrating retaining walls as design elements rather than purely structural ones, and siting a pool or outdoor kitchen in a way that responds to the grade — these are design-build exercises that require genuine engineering and design capability in the same team.
For the newer custom homes on the west side, the renovation work tends to be finer-grained: primary suite upgrades, kitchen refreshes, outdoor kitchen additions. The bones are already good; the opportunity is in elevating the finishes and functionality to match what the setting has always deserved.
